Classes

Purpose Driven Learning

Classes take place during the first hour of co-op, with students grouped by age for structured learning experiences. These classes are designed and led by SOAR parents, drawing on their unique skills and passions.

At SOAR, our mission is to cultivate a sense of belonging, purpose, and fulfillment through meaningful learning experiences. Purpose Driven Learning is how we bring that mission to life in classes. We aim for every unit to answer the questions, “Why does this matter? What is the point?” Students engage in meaningful work that connects to real-world ideas, personal goals, or collaborative projects, giving their efforts depth and direction.

Classes will be hands-on, project or inquiry based with a clear goal, outcome, and purpose. Our classes primarily focus on sciences, STEM, art and music, though we welcome other subjects based on parent expertise and student interest.

While SOAR classes enrich and enhance learning, we are not a school, and these classes are not meant to replace core instruction done at home.

Each term concludes with a Showcase event, where students present what they’ve created, explored, or accomplished. These evening events are a celebration of learning, community, and the purposeful work students have done together. Family and friends are invited to attend Showcase.

A classroom is a place where a community of learners engages in discovery and invention, reflection and problem solving.”

CLasses at SOAR

The age groupings below are subject to change depending on the number of kids and their ages registered in a given year. Generally, age groupings will follow the format of early elementary, upper elementary, junior high, and high school

Early Elementary

This level transitions our kids from play-based learning to more purposeful projects and experiences. Students still enjoy a segmented format with plenty of variety, but no experience group challenges and mini missions that promote problem solving and cooperation.

Past Classes:

  • Fairytale STEM
  • Boomwhakers Music
  • Space Exploration
  • Forests in the Fall Art

Upper Elementary

This level focuses on discovery, exploration, curiosity, and inspiration through projects and challenges. At this stage, students are ready to think more critically and begin connecting their learning to a greater purpose. They take pride in meaningful work—whether it’s designing something useful, solving a real-world problem, or creating something to share with others.

Past Classes:

  • Recorders and Rhythm
  • Lego Robotics
  • Art Around the World
  • Musical PE
  • Stop Motion Videos

Middle School

SOAR is a middle school focused program. We want our tweens and young teens to enjoy working with peers in project based classes. Middle schoolers are ready to wrestle with complex ideas, take on larger group projects, and develop their independent voice. Classes emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, and relevance to the world around them—while still remaining fun and hands-on.

Past Classes:

  • Vex Robotics
  • Bucket Drumming
  • Physics of Boats
  • Forensic Science
  • Claymation Animation

High School

Our high school classes start Fall 2025. We want SOAR to be a co-op our teenagers are excited about.

High school at SOAR is designed to be meaningful, challenging, and memorable. Teens will engage in intellectually rich and purpose-driven work that prepares them for life beyond co-op. Classes are often project-based and student-led, encouraging independence, critical thinking, and collaboration. This is a time to explore interests, develop real-world skills, and make an impact.

Upcoming Classes Include:

  • World Landmarks
  • SOAR Tank Entrepreneurship
  • Arduino Computer Science

The Littles Class

We also have a class for younger siblings. Kids 0-5 attend this class, designed to be a magical early learning experience. Their class remains the same all year and features:

  • Themed stories and activities
  • Invitations to play
  • Music and movement
